OKC for Soccer, the ambitious project to bring professional soccer back to Oklahoma City, announced today that its men’s professional team will launch in 2028, aligning with the construction timeline for the new MAPS 4 Multipurpose Stadium in downtown OKC.
The club originally targeted 2027 to launch the men’s professional team, but determined that kicking off in 2028 in a new stadium would provide the best opportunity to build a successful, sustainable club.
“This was not an easy decision, but it is the right one,” OKC for Soccer President Court Jeske said. “Beginning play in 2028 will allow us to kick off in the new stadium and provide a world-class experience for OKC fans right from the start.”
A “Celebration” Season in 2027
The club does, however, have plans to play competetively in 2027.
Ahead of the full launch of the pro team, OKC for Soccer plans to field a U-23 team for a “celebration” season.
“The OKC soccer movement is gathering momentum, from the stadium to our professional team coming in 2028, and we want to provide fans with a great soccer experience as soon as possible,” Jeske said. “Our plan will allow us to engage fans and build excitement in the community about the club and what it will mean to the city for years to come.”
More details on the celebration season will be provided at a later date.
